The Climate Action project
L’istruzione formale tende ad essere ristretta all’acquisizione di conoscenze, alla memorizzazione e alla valutazione. C’è molto poca interazione tra studenti di diverse classi e gli insegnanti non vogliono che i propri alunni commettano errori. L’istruzione è più che offrire conoscenze. È anche offrire abilità, opportunità ed instillare empatia nelle classi. Gli insegnanti continuano a versare conoscenze nelle teste dei loro studenti mentre ci sono altri approcci come l’apprendimento attivo, la classe capovolta e l’apprendimento collaborativo.
Nel progetto Climate Action gli insegnanti rompono le pareti delle loro classi e collegano gli studenti in oltre 60 paesi. Il progetto è incentrato sui discenti e gli alunni fanno ricerche, brainstorming e discutono. Condividono le loro scoperte tramite video o presentazioni settimanalmente. Agli studenti viene detto che sono giornalisti e le loro classi diventano redazioni. Gli insegnanti sono guidati fuori dal loro ambiente sicuro poiché viene loro richiesto di non impartire alcun sapere. Diventano facilitatori nelle discussioni ed indicano ai propri studenti la giusta direzione assicurandosi che verifichino le loro fonti. Tutti gli studenti dei paesi partecipanti imparano in modi molto diversi ( collaborando, esprimendosi e creando,, facendo ricerche, discutendo, collegandosi ad esperti sui social media …) ed i loro prodotti sono diversi (compongono canzoni, ballano, creano, usano Lego, Minecraft, video, interviste..). Questo progetto copre diverse discipline: scienze, matematica, storia, biologia, letteratura, .. . Gli studenti imparano ad utilizzare certi strumenti senza che gli venga insegnato come usarli. Gli insegnanti scoprono nuovi approcci e strumenti. Fanno collegamenti globali e … l’apprendimento è divertimento!
Formal education tends to be restricted to knowledge acquisition, memorization and assessment. There is very little interaction between students from different classrooms and teachers don't want their pupils to make mistakes. Education is more than offering knowledge. It is also about offering skills, opportunities and instilling empathy into classrooms. Teachers keep pouring knowledge into their students' heads while there are other approaches like learning by doing, flipped learning and collaborative learning.
In the Climate Action project teachers break down their classroom walls and connect learners over 60 countries. The project is student-centered and so the pupils have to do the research, brainstorming and discussion. They share their findings via weekly videos or presentations. The students are told that they are journalists and their classrooms become newsrooms. Teachers are driven outside their comfort zones as they are requested not to give away any knowledge. They become discussion leaders and mentors pointing their students in the right direction and making sure the students verify their sources. All participating countries' students learn in very different ways (by collaborating, by expressing and creating, by doing research, by discussing, by connecting to experts on social media, etc) and have very different outcomes (they compose songs, dance, create, using Lego, Minecraft, stop motion videos, interviewing, etc). This project covers several subjects: Science, Math, History, Biology, Literature, etc. Students learn to use certain tools without being instructed how to use them. Teachers discover new approaches and tools. They make global connection and... learning is fun!
